My name is Alex Gilland and I am a junior telecommunications major with an emphasis in media sales and promotion. Taking part in the Everyday Life in Middletown seminar has allowed me to learn about Muncie, play to my strengths, and learn about and improve upon my weaknesses. I would recommend a VBC seminar for any Ball State student.
As a part of this project, I served on the event planning and promotions committee as well as the website committee, and I independently seek to make sure the website and film are accessible through the means of audio description. Outside the seminar, I am a member of WCRD, Ball State’s student run radio station. At the station, I help out with the sports team by board opping Ball State football games and occasionally reading sports headlines for WCRD’s Live at Five week day newscast.
While reflecting on my diary entries from the days we wrote with our informants, I found myself wondering who my audience was, writing about the past, worrying about the future, escaping my everyday through laughter and sports, and educating the public in trying to change what it means to be blind.
